ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Water Wastewater Department prepares students for entry into the field. There is currently offered a Water and Wastewater Associate in Science, Certificate of Achievement in Water and Wastewater Technology, and a Certificate of Accomplishment in Water and Wastewater Technology. The Water and Wastewater Department is part of Career Technical Education (CTE) and students have been successful with entering the workforce even with completion of a few specific Water Wastewater courses. We want to continue to build a sustainable program which invests into students, growth of program and department, and serves as a bridge with our community. We want instructors who care about students, about pedagogy, and care about the future of our community.  We are looking for an individual willing to take risks to achieve those goals.

FACULTY JOB DESCRIPTION:

Solano Community College is seeking to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to run the college’s Water and Wastewater program.  In this role the new faculty member will teach courses, refine and develop curriculum, work with adjunct faculty members, and coordinate coursework within the college’s Water and Wastewater program. This position supports workforce development and prepares students for careers in municipal and industrial water and wastewater operations.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction in accordance with community college standards, contribute to curriculum development, support student success, and maintain strong connections with industry partners and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Teach lower-division courses in water and wastewater treatment, which may include:

Water treatment processes

Wastewater treatment operations

Distribution and collection systems

Water quality laboratory analysis and regulatory compliance

Instrumentation for monitoring and control of water and wastewater operations

• Teach California and federal water and wastewater regulations and compliance requirements.
• Prepare students for operator certification preparation (California and national)
• Develop, revise, and assess curriculum in alignment with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and workforce needs.
• Deliver instruction using a variety of teaching modalities, including lecture, laboratory, and hands-on training.
• Maintain and oversee laboratory facilities, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Evaluate and assess student learning outcomes and participate in program review and accreditation processes.
• Advise and mentor students, including career and academic guidance.
• Participate in department, division, and college governance activities, including committee service.
• Maintain an industry advisory committee that collaborates with local water and wastewater agencies and other industry partners.
• Maintain currency in the field through professional development, certifications, and industry engagement.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and student support.
• Develop, review, and maintain currency of curriculum for courses in collaboration with other instructors as well as the articulation officer.
• Provide instruction in accordance with established program course outlines of record; inform/advise students about program requirements; evaluate and provide timely verbal and written assessments of student performance; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed reports and required documents; and maintain required student attendance, scholastic records, and other related materials.
• Work in collaboration with other full-time instructors in coordinating curriculum and mentoring adjunct faculty in these courses.
• Participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLO) and Program Level Outcomes (PLO).
• Actively participate in department/school meetings and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies; participate in college governance and decision-making.
• Participate in college-wide committee work and collegial governance. 
• Maintain current knowledge and skills in biotechnology and biomanufacturing.
• Maintain effective communication with peers, staff, students, and administrators.
• Teaching assignments may include evening and weekend hours, either in-person or online, as well as off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate Dean.
